Olympic Triathlon Preview

2008 US Olympic Team members and pals Nate(?) Hunter Kemper, Julie Ertel, Laura Bennet, Alicia (?) Sarah Haskins, Becky Lavelle, Matt Reed (Jarrod Shoemaker must have been holding the camera)

TV COVERAGE: In Hawaii the Women's race will be on during the primetime coverage on Sunday night between 9 and 11 pm on NBC (Channel 8 for most of us). The Men's event will be slightly less conveniently watchable, on MSNBC (channel 39), Tuesday morning between 5 and 11 am.

COURSE: I have yet to find a great resource to describe the course. the Swim is apparently a
single lap, but the bike and run are multi-lap to accommodate spectators. There is some discussion of the blue rubberized track being used... apparently it's softer than what the athletes are used to and serves to slow them down. Makes sense if you think about everything we know about bike tires and minimizing contact area with the road...

Here's the course map off the Chinese site (here)... not too user friendly! Anybody speak Chinese?

A lot of the info out there on the olympic race is pretty weak- the Chinese site is clunky, and CNN and ESPN's sites are weak. USAT's site is here and is the best resource out there... Should be fun to watch!
